I keep asking and someday, someone will tell...
What besides the price is the difference between a green pass and an ordinary pass? is it worth the price difference?

Hi Denice! Welcome to the wonderful time-sink that is LJ!

Assuming you're talking about JR rail passes, the green pass gets you into the spiffier cars on the long-distance trains without paying extra. This page has a reasonable explanation of it. You could probably get along fine without the green pass, I'm guessing.

Enjoy your trip to Japan! I was there for 9 days back in 2001, travelling around western Honshu with my best friend. I don't know if any of my travel experiences would be helpful to you, but feel free to ask.
